Our Artistic Director
Kat Aguiar is originally from Park Ridge, Illinois. She earned her Bachelor of Music in cello performance from St. Olaf College, where she studied with David Carter. It was there that she became interested in Early Music and also started playing the viola da gamba. She went on to complete her Master of Music and Artist Diploma degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, studying with Yehuda Hanani, Lee Fiser, and both the LaSalle and Tokyo String Quartets. Ms. Aguiar has been an active performer and teacher in the Cincinnati area for many years. She served as the Principal Cello of the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra for twelve years, and performed with the Cincinnati Symphony and Chamber Orchestras as well as the Dayton Philharmonic. Ms. Aguiar is a certified Suzuki teacher and a skilled professional teacher who inspires her students to enjoy reaching their highest potential.

The Impact of Cello Cincinnati on the Community
Educational Initiatives
Cello Cincinnati’s educational initiatives are central to its mission and are grounded in consistent weekly rehearsals that emphasize ensemble skills, musical discipline, and artistic growth. Through these rehearsals, participants develop strong practice habits and performance readiness while working closely with fellow musicians in a collaborative environment. The organization also offers workshops and masterclasses led by experienced cellists, providing participants with valuable insights and techniques.
Community Engagement
Performances are another vital aspect of Cello Cincinnati's work, bringing together musicians and audiences, and creating a shared experience that fosters appreciation for the arts. Whether it's a concert in a local park or a collaborative performance with other artists such as banjoist Joel Kaithamer and guitarist John Vasconcelos, Cello Cincinnati highlights the musical mission of our community. These experiences build confidence, strengthen musicianship, and inspire participants to continue their musical journeys with a deeper sense of purpose and connection.
